----------------------------- | XNAME | | Digital Art and Illusions | ----------------------------- =========================================================================== | Xname was born during the 90ies in Bologna, Italy. Since 2002 it | | identifies an emerging style characterised by the syncresis of | | critical theory, art practice, digital activity and urban presence. | | In 2004 'Xname' became a virtual enterprise dislocated in Europe | | and operating all over the globe. Long live Ubik, our muse! | =========================================================================== ##### # # # # ## ##### # # # # # # # # # # # # ###### # # # ### # ## # # # ###### # # ## ## # # # # # # # # # # # # # =========================================================================== | London based Italian new media artist ;) interests include metaphysics | | electronics, software, performance and interactivity. | =========================================================================== and this is all about...? ====================================================================================== | ... the Self and the position of the subject in relation to identity, and the | | multiplication of these identities in relation to the other (and that other | | which reflects the Self), or more in general the fracture with all that which | | is Alterity, where subjectivity blears into metaphysics and substances | | transmogrify into different domains of existence (starting from the physicality | | of the body). My obsession with oracles, dreams and prophecies brought about | | the question of free will, and how do we make decisions as humans but also how | | can machines make decisions (classic AI), and how do we use machines to make | | decisions for us, whether technology, assuming this role, participates in the | | supernatural... The question about uncertainty (what is it, how do we measure it) | | seduced me, and I started gazing at quantum physics, its beginnings in | | thermodynamics and the contemporary edges called string theories. This, and an | | ongoing and growing passion for electronics and informatics, reconciled my | | relationship to science, making me, slowly, fall into the pot. Currently | | interrogating the electromagnetic field, I wonder what it can reveal and tell us | | about the world. The investigation includes a redefinition of avant-garde, | | inspecting emergent behaviour as the form (process) of 'technological sublime'. | ====================================================================================== #### ## # # # # #### # # # # # # ## # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ###### # # # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # # # # #### # # # # # #### #### ###### # # ##### ## # # ##### ## ##### # ##### # # # # # # # ## # # # # # # # # # ##### ## # # # # # # # # # # # ##### # # # ## ##### ###### # # # # # ###### # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # # # # # # # ###### # # # # # # # ##### # # ##### # # # # #### ##### ###### #### # # ##### # # ###### ## ## # # # # # # # ## # # # # # # ## # # # # # ##### # # # # # # ###### ##### # # # # ##### # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # # # # # #### # # ###### #### # # # # # ###### #### #### # # # # ##### # # # # # ## # # # #### # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # #### #### #### # # ##### =============================================================================== | xname is a multimedia artist born in Milan and currently based in London. | | Her sound performances are developed through the use of artificial lights | | and home-made micro-oscillators which generate sound waves. The light, | | transformed in electric current, passes through the circuit and exits in | | the shape of a sonic frequency, while the sound, modulated by manipulating | | the light sources, becomes tactile and synesthetic. The result is an | | hypnotic spectacle dominated by stroboscopy and industrial and noise-techno | | frequencies. Recently she has been experimenting with the effects of | | network lag and time delay on amplified sounds that, streamed to different | | servers, feed back to the speakers after travelling through the Internet. | =============================================================================== #### #### # # ###### ##### # # # # # #### # # # ## ## # # # # # ## # # # #### # # # ## # ##### # ###### # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ### # # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # #### #### # # ###### # # # # # # #### ##### ## #### ## ##### ###### # # # #### # # # # # # # # # # # ## ## # # # # # # # # # # # ##### # ## # # # ### ###### # ###### # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # #### # # ##### ###### # # # #### # ================================================================================== | Eleonora Oreggia is a media artist born in Milan and based in Europe. | | She received a Master Degree with honor in 'Literature and Philosophy' from | | the University of Bologna (DAMS, Drama, Art and Music Studies), with a thesis | | in Semiotics of Art. I like writing | | and thinking and I often have questions. I was born in the suburbs of Milan and | | my background is in Classical Literature, Latin, Greek and Philosophy. When I was | | almost 18 I moved to Bologna where I studied Art and Semiotics at University of | | Bologna (DAMS, Drama, Art and Music Studies), while I was frequenting the Fine | | Art Academy (Painting). On March 2003 I obtained my Master degree with Honour in | | Semiotics of Audiovisuals ('The Animation of Drawing. A semiotic analysis."). One | | week later I was selected for a Leonardo exchange program by the European community, | | and thanks to that I moved to Amsterdam to make a Stage at the Nederlands Instituut | | voor Mediakunst (NIMK). I lived in Amsterdam for six years, and I spent most of my | | time with machines, although I also met some people. I have been busy with different | | projects concerning social activism and the liberation of technology and communication.| | Some of these projects were mainly political, other rather arty and 'giggy'. My work, | | mixing different practices, talks about social and individual identities, and their | | interfacing with reality and imagination.
